How Nandigram is helping farmers in producing turmeric
In a country like India where agriculture is the major occupation, Indian agriculture is plagued by various problems, like improper training to row crop, inadequate fertilizers and biocides, agricultural marketing, lack of mechanisation. These problems directly and indirectly affect the life of a farmer. Traditional farming activities of agriculture consume time as well as the effort of a farmer. India is considered to be one of the largest producer of turmeric. Traditional cultivation of turmeric (Selum) with curcumin ranged from 2.75 to 3.75, takes 9 months and the yield per acre is not as expected. This is because farmers are not trained properly to get more yield.
Considerin all the points Mr. Narendra Chauhan firmly believed that “Success is a journey, not a destination”. Adopting ethical business practices, he conducted extensive training programs for more than 2000 villages to explain about the proper procedure to row turmeric, how to get more yield in less time, and also he introduced two types of turmeric which takes less time to grow as compared to traditional method of producing turmeric.
One is SHANKARA which has 6-7 % of curcumin and matures in 7 months Second one is PTS 10 having 4-5% of curcumin and matures in 7 months. Farmers are getting trained to produce high yield in reduced time period.
